Architect / Developer / Code Commander at Totally Rad! (San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675)

Totally Rad! is a California-based company that develops industry-leading add-ons for Adobe Photoshop. Our acclaimed products target fast-growing vertical market segments within the Photography and professional imaging industry.... which is all the HR-speak I can take, so...

HI! I'm Doug. I run a quasi-startup called Totally Rad, and we sell stuff that makes Photoshop better. Our current product lineup consists of simple scripts, but I think we can do better. This means writing Photoshop plugins, which means I need an ace developer whose favorite letter in the alphabet is C.

We currently have no development team, per se. You'll be it for a while. We'll work together to hash out the spec, but you'll have broad responsibility for being the architect and manager on the project. That Joel Test? You'll be responsible for getting us a 12/12. That means you need to be independent, self-motivated, and capable of creating beautiful code from out of the void (gratuitous "void" joke omitted).

You'll be working on a variety of projects. Chief among them is our next generation of imaging tools, beginning with a kick-ass Photoshop plugin. The actual application you'll be helping to create has three distinct components:

- a low-level library of fast, portable image-manipulation routines, which will be fed into the...

- proprietary meta-language that allows us to quickly combine the aforementioned library of filters into (basically) infinite combinations of final effects. That will seamlessly feed into the...

- user interface on both Windows and Max OSX, which makes all of the above stuff look pretty.

You'll have ample opportunity to choose how you get work done, and which nifty toys you use to do it. You'll get to wear many hats, often simultaneously. Your hard work will warm the hearts and win the acclaim of photographers all over the world (seriously - our current user base is full of amazing people who are rabidly passionate about the products we create). I also promise to let you be smart, and to not get in your way too often.

So if you want to create something tangible and ground-breaking, and relish the independence and adventure of working for a tiny little company, then you definitely should give me a shout. If you've made it this far without shaking your head in dismay, take a good look in the mirror - you're probably an ideal candidate!

Interested? email doug@gettotallyrad.com with a current resume, or just to ask questions.
