THE MISSION
Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum (CHNDM) is the only museum in the nation devoted exclusively to historic and contemporary design. The Museum presents compelling perspectives on the impact of design on daily life through active educational and curatorial programming. It is the mission of Cooper Hewitt?s staff and Board of Trustees to advance the public understanding of design across the twenty-four centuries of human creativity represented by the Museum's collection.
DUTIES
Serves as the sole Webmaster and museum?s expert in the technical production of digital images and multimedia creations for the World Wide Web (WEB) and image editing programs, 2D and 3D illustration and animation programs, Web authoring programs, non-linear digital video creation and editing programs. He/she must be thoroughly familiar with various Web authoring programs. Website Development and Management:-designs, develops, maintains and enhances the Web site www.cooperhewitt.org; and coordinates development of applications and formats Technical Research and Implementation-ensures that all technical, design, and content aspects of the website function effectively and consistently-Ensures that website information is timely and relevant, such as hours and admission fees and opening and closing dates of exhibition and education programs. A wide variety of other duties and assignments relating to website will be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
B.S. in Computer Science (or equivalent) not required but highly desired
Minimum of five years work experience in web design, and on-line content management and related technical issues, in order to perform all duties, including:
o Hand coding HTML, CSS and Javascript driven sites
o Ability to program in the following languages: PHP, Serverside, ColdFusion, ASP/.NET, Perl, VB Script
o Knowledge of Microsoft and Apache server environments
o Knowledge of databases: MySQL, MS SQL Server, MS Access
o Knowledge of operating systems: Windows and Mac
o Knowledge of productivity and authoring software: MS Office, Adobe CS3 Suite, Flash. Interwoven / Teamsite desired but not required.
o Knowledge of Content Management Systems (Drupal, Joomla, Word Press, Text pattern, etc.)
Demonstrated experience collaborating effectively and creatively with an interdisciplinary team. In particular, non-technical content providers from diverse backgrounds.
