Arc90 is looking for a talented developer to join our ranks to help us build out some groundbreaking features related to Readability, our tool to help make reading on the web easier.

Arc90 is a small firm of design-driven, passionate technologists who work in midtown Manhattan. We wear a lot of hats, both as an organization and as individuals. We're a full service web consulting firm, but we're also a product and R&D shop.

As a result, we have a ton of ideas, some of which we explore on our lab; the trouble is finding time to follow through on them. We choose carefully, and we still have a full portfolio of exciting things to work on. You'd be helping us fill that role by working on our team as a developer on Readability, which we have some pretty big plans for that could change the face of the web.

At Arc you'll be part of a tight-knit, supportive, creative, collaborative community where we're all passionate about building great user experiences, learning new skills and techniques, and doing the right thing.

If this interests you, check out our website ( http://www.arc90.com ) and check yourself against the following criteria. If you're a match, we'd love for you to get in touch at readabilitydeveloper@arc90.com.

You definitely:

  • Are a smart, motivated, focused person who enjoys crafting great software
  • Have a passion for the web, and particularly are forward thinking when it comes to new web standards. (You know what's available in HTML5 pretty well, and have played around with it.)
  • Have a strong understanding of Python
  • Have a pretty good understanding of client side JavaScript - the stronger the better. At least enough that this doesn't terrify you, and a bonus if you can find some flaws in it: http://code.google.com/p/arc90labs-readability/source/browse/trunk/js/readability.js
  • Have a broad range of interests when it comes to development. When building software, you tend to have the users' experience in mind
  • Have a bias towards shipping software. You understand technical debt and why it is sometimes necessary
  • Can sling together a JOIN or two in SQL
  • Have an in depth understanding of programming as a craft. This doesn't necessarily mean a BS in Computer Science or anything, but if you've got one, great.
  • Are living in NYC or looking to move here
  • Are qualified to work in the United States without sponsorship. (Sorry, we can't currently sponsor H1-B candidates.)
  • Are a good communicator and enjoy working with teams of smart folks. If you're a cowboy coder, look elsewhere.

It'd be nice if you:

  • Have experience scaling websites
  • Have experience with server side JavaScript (Node, etc)
  • Understand and enjoy HTTP and RESTful web applications
  • Already use and love Readability, and feel passionate about improving the reading experience on the web.

When you apply, please provide a few code samples with your resume. Some Python and/or JavaScript would be preferred, but if you want to send us something else as well, that's fine. We're language agnostic here.

If this opportunity sounds interesting to you, and you feel you're a good match, send your info to readabilitydeveloper@arc90.com.

To apply: Send your resume and code samples to readabilitydeveloper@arc90.com
