Go ask an average non-technical user of commercial software how they access and report on data from the systems in their company. These are the systems that cost too much, took too long to implement and burned up too many resources. 90% of the time they are going to tell you they had to call some technical person holed up somewhere because they are the only one who knows how to access the ugly beasts. And that same poor schmuck who was hired to do cool technical stuff is now the resident disgruntled report writer who they need to wait for to get their reports. Forget it. The model is broken.
