Software Engineer
Firstborn, an award-winning interactive agency, is in the process of interviewing candidates for a fulltime, on-site position of a Software Engineer in our New York office.

Summary of Responsibilities:
Are you interested in server side development of interactive projects for high-profile clients; ensuring the final deliverable is completed on time, within budget and at the highest level of quality? If you answered yes, then read on. When you join the Firstborn team you?ll work closely with our Director of Interactive Development and Producers to identify and determine the technical scope of projects. You?ll also collaborate with a creative team of interactive designers, front and backend developers, client teams, and other partners to achieve a repeatable progression through the project lifecycle.
You will also have the chance to work on a number of creative projects that include (but are not limited to) ecommerce sites, content management systems, CRMs, microsites, application programming, games, kiosks, web applications and advanced technology broad band implementation.
And, of course, you?ll also be responsible for programming websites and designing/maintaining databases on an ongoing basis.
Key Duties:
· Develop solutions to complex problems that require a high degree of ingenuity and innovation
· Identify, focus, and document scope of technology aspects for client projects
· Strategic project planning and information architecture
· Application development and database design
· ecommerce development
· Develop custom content management systems and website administration tools
· Facilitate communication between client IT groups, 3rd party vendors and internal staff
· Conduct QA testing, debugging, deployment
· Successfully integrate server side components with client side applications
Internal Responsibilities:
· In coordination with internal project staff, identify functional limitations, and design, develop and Q/A server-side technology.
· Stay current in new technologies and platforms and be able to adapt to technologies required by clients and projects
· Must be hard working, detail oriented, customer focused, a self-starter and a team player
· Represent the confidence and ability of agency at the very highest level
Skills and Aptitudes Required:
· 3+ years experience with Object Oriented PHP, MySQL, XHTML, JavaScript and CSS
· Solid AJAX skills using either JQuery, Dojo or Prototype
· Strong understanding of client/server security, hashing and encryption algorithms
· Experience with SOAP webservices design and development
· Knowledge installing, configuring and maintaining LAMP environments
· Solid database schema design and implementation skills ? both transactional and analytical as well as database normalization theory
· Experience using version control systems (e.g. SVN)
· BS Computer Science or equivalent work experience required
· Strong communication skills (both in person and in writing)
· Ability and experience working within a collaborative team environment wearing multiple hats.
· Proven ability to monitor workload, self-manage time/tasks efficiently, and work on multiple projects at one time
Good to Have:
· Experience with any of the following: JSP, Ruby, Python, ASP, C, C++, C#, Objective-C, Lua, .NET
· Java, Websphere, Tomcat, Weblogic, JBoss
· Flash / Flex / AS3 basics
· AMF Remoting with any of the following: AMFPHP, Red5, Fluorine
· Win32/Cocoa application development
· Experience using third party SDKs (iPhone, iTunes, etc)
· Experience with open source products / frameworks (Drupal, CakePHP, etc)
· Game development experience / interest
