Topsy is building a search engine powered by the social web, Topsy is a new kind of search engine, with a new way of looking at the Internet. Topsy doesn’t think the Internet is a collection of documents. Or even a web of documents. Topsy sees the Internet as a stream of conversations. Topsy treats people differently from the webpages they create and the things they say. And Topsy sees that people in every community are connected in a web of relationships, where each person influences other people to read, talk and think about things.
Topsy is looking for a few really good people. Topsy is well-funded, and works out of 3 secret bunkers in San Francisco’s South of Market district. If you are impressively good at what you do and intensely eager to do it, this will be the place for you.
Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain features on Topsy.com
- Maintain and extend the Topsy API
- Create and maintain extension applications (firefox, wordpress, facebook) that use the Topsy Platform and API
Qualifications:

Required Skills
- 5+ years experience designing web applications (provide examples of work)
- 5+ years experience with modern web protocols and markup languages – XHTML, CSS, RSS, HTTP
- 3+ years experience with Javascript, PHP, Perl
- 3+ experience working on cross-browser platforms
- A refined sense of user interface design
- Knowledge of UI frameworks
Desired Skills
- Practical experience with the Social Web
- Practical experience with the Perl Catalyst Framework
- Practical experience with performance optimization of web apps
- Practical experience with REST and Web API Frameworks
