Field Software Engineer at Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions (New York, New York, United States)

This position involves the development, testing, debugging and implementation of custom software, interfaces and utilities specifically designed for use by our field staff. The Field Software Engineer (FSE) will provide user-level support and collaborate with our internal clients to identify projects for development and future enhancements. The right candidate must be able to work in a team environment yet complete projects with minimal oversight and be comfortable with juggling multiple priorities and deadlines. The efforts of the FSE will improve the efficiencies of our operations, drive the quality of the customer experience and enhance the fields ability to manage their business.

Responsibilities
-Analyze field systems and requirements, make strategic/architectural recommendations for implementing requirements
-Support field users by implementing solutions that satisfy their requirements, and enhance those systems based on field feedback
-Support field software developers to provide them with needed tools, data, sample code and documentation
-Coordinate with the KTPA business systems development team, who provide the back-end functionality

Requirements
-Passion for empowering users
-Excellent communications skills, with the ability to work with business users as well as other members of the technical staff
-Experience with Web 2.0 user interface and integration technologies such as HTML/CSS, JavaScript, REST, AJAX and Flash/Flex.
-Interest in working with a wide range of technologies and standards, ranging from Excel to Grails.
-Able to recommend or select the appropriate tool for each application and user, and assist with implementing the solution

Preferred Experience
-Building Java/Web applications using tools such as Spring, Hibernate, Tomcat, Eclipse and Ant
-Light-weight and/or Agile, test-driven development methodologies
-Scripting tools such as Ruby/Rails, Perl, PHP, or Groovy/Grails
-Perforce
