Shoebuy.com, Inc.: User Experience/Front-End Developer

Shoebuy is looking for a talented and creative User Experience/Front-End Developer to help build the next generation of its e-commerce platform. The ideal candidate has a passion for designing and implementing intuitive and visually appealing user interfaces for the web, and takes pride in producing lightweight, readable, and maintainable code.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting various business units with the creation of user interface and front-end design specs for new features and functionality. Specs may consist of a combination of textual guidelines, flowcharts, sketches/wire-frames, and detailed Photoshop mockups.
  • Converting mockups to hand-crafted code that is clean, robust, agile/flexible to changes during iteration phases, and compatible with major browsers including IE6/7/8, Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Mobile Safari.
  • Refine existing front-end code to add new functionality and configurability, enhance visual appeal, and improve overall performance including page load time optimization and UI responsiveness.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of web technologies including HTML/XHTML, CSS, JavaScript (including "unobtrusive" paradigm), jQuery or similar frameworks, AJAX, JSON and XML (5+ years).
  • Experience and confidence working with Java (JSP) and Perl to integrate UI components with the application's backend. (3+ years).
  • Previous experience building user interfaces for medium to large web sites and web applications. (3+ years).
  • Familiarity with popular graphics applications including Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar, and understanding of common image formats and their applications, alpha transparency, favicons, etc. (3+ years).
  • Experience using popular source control software (distributed source control knowledge such as Mercurial or git a plus) (2+ years).
  • Experience with UNIX environment and comfortable working in the terminal (3+ years).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and in a team-based environment under time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Possess organizational and initiative skills, detail-oriented, and the ability to choose and integrate the correct technologies to solve problems and meet business requirements.
  • Desire to continually stay up-to-date on the latest, emerging web technologies and trends.

Recommended:

  • Well-developed portfolio of proven, client-facing work.
  • Understanding of SEO best practices and semantic markup.
  • Familiarity with next generation HTML 5 and CSS 3 technologies.
  • Ability to write standards-based code that validates (XHTML/CSS/508).
  • Experience with WordPress or similar CMS architectures.
  • Experience developing mobile-friendly websites for popular handsets and devices including iPhone, iPad, Android, and BlackBerry.
