American Association for the Advancement of Science: Web Editorial Intern

Science, the world's largest-circulation journal of general scientific research, news, and commentary, has an opening for an intern to assist the Web editorial team for the www.sciencemag.org site.  This full-time internship will run for six months and is based at our headquarters in downtown Washington, D.C.  The internship is expected to pay $14.00 to $16.00 an hour, depending on skills and qualifications.

The internship includes, but is not limited to, the following duties:

·          Work with the Web editorial team of Science on a variety of content-focused projects touching a range of topics and media;

·          Assist with Web, audio, and video production and logistics;

·          Write Web-friendly or audio-friendly summaries of scientific research;

·          Help build up and support Science's efforts in social-media channels such as Facebook and Twitter;

·          Assist with other Web content as related to Science special issues and editorial efforts;

·          Write and edit material for Web-only projects;

·          Fill in as needed for absent staff; and

·          Provide other help as needed to staff writers/producers/editors.

The minimum qualifications to be competitive and considered for the internship are:

·          Extensive university or college level training leading to a Bachelor's degree or higher (sciences preferred), or the expectation of a Bachelor’s degree or higher within current academic term;

·          Solid written, verbal and organizational skills;

·          Educational background in science;

·          Demonstrated writing talent;

·          Hands-on skill in multimedia editing, familiarity with social media, and basic HTML and office software skills; and

·          Superior attention to detail and ability to manage several projects at once.
