What technologies and tools are we using now?
C# .NET 3.5 in Visual Studio 2008; the ASP.NET MVC framework; JQuery; Subversion; TeamCity; FogBugz; open standards XML (schemas, transforms, linq to xml, customisable xml editors); WPF in our windows applications.
Which jobs do we have and why?
We have C# .NET developer and lead developer intakes planned over the next few months as we expand the team and our workload. Our programme of work will develop related systems for the running of the daily business of the chambers and committees of the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
We create a variety of products from internal web applications and document authoring systems, to public facing web sites. One of our key aims is to make Parliament more open and accessible. In the unique environment of Parliament, both Houses rely heavily on bespoke, internally developed software to underpin their daily business.
What will you be doing?
We have begun a significant programme of exciting development work where you will develop, enhance, test and implement applications to facilitate the running of the daily business of Parliament and to distribute information within Parliament, to government departments and to the public. You will support the applications that you develop, and liaise with software suppliers throughout the application life-cycle.
We have roles for web based and thick client developers at lead developer and developer levels. Please review the job descriptions to see more detail on what we require.
Skills/experience required
Our planned expansion aims to hire developers who are at various points in their career to add skills and expertise to our diverse team. Core skills and knowledge required include:
C# .NET 3.5 (preferably with experience of ASP.NET MVC framework)
SQL Server 2005/8.
XML, XSL and XSD skills
Display accountable and collaborative working practises across the team by using Subversion source control, documentation and bug tracking
Experience of entire SDLC, delivering functionality on time and to budget delivery focused
