We need an experienced Python developer to help our clients, including groups like MoveOn.org, Democracy for America and BoldProgressives.org, change the face of politics.
We Also Walk Dogs is a small, close-knit team. We've built and developed cutting-edge tools that power some of the biggest social change groups around; we're both a laboratory and an engine. You'll be part of a small, fast-moving team to architect, develop, and support ActionKit, a political toolkit in use by millions of people.
Your co-workers are some of the best and brightest in the business. We Also Walk Dogs developers have written books, built cutting-edge election tools and authored popular open source Perl and Python modules.
We have a virtual office. You can live wherever you want and you'll be in touch with your colleagues by IM, email, and phone. You must be a self-starter, capable of taking a project from start to finish without constant direct supervision.
This is a full-time contract position.
You should have at least three years of experience developing production web applications on a Linux/Apache/MySQL/Python (LAMP) platform. Ideally, you are well-versed in Django. Experienced developers with extensive experience on other LAMP-ish platforms and a demonstrated ability to come up to speed quickly in new environments will also be considered.
You should have extensive experience developing database-backed web applications. MySQL experience is preferred.
Working directly with clients over IM, e-mail, and phone is a critical part of this job. You need to be able to respond quickly, be professional, and get along with not just your fellow developers but also clients with a range of technical skill levels.
Perl experience, UNIX system administration and IP networking experience are a big plus.
No recruiters, please.
