Is This You? at Steelray Software (Atlanta, Georgia United States)

We're seeking a great developer for an opening at a small but healthy software company.

If you're a recruiter, click on the Back button. This ad is for job seekers only.

YOU

You really like to code. In your spare time, you have a side project or two going. Being another drone in a large corporate development organization is not for you. You know how to write solid code, and you're fast but not sloppy. You're constantly reading another book to improve your skills and make your life easier. You're not perfect but know how to write decent unit and system tests to get as close as you can to bug-free code.

You take a lot of pride in the code you write, and make sure it meets the needs of your users. You're comfortable talking to customers, sales reps, and anyone else who keeps us in business. You know Java extremely well but don't call yourself a Java programmer or any kind of programmer. Whatever is best for the job at hand is fine with you, whether it's Java, C#, PHP, Flex, etc. You have no fear of new languages, new platforms, and new challenges. If you're with us a while, and that's what we 're hoping for, you'll surely be picking them up when it makes sense.

You have excellent people skills and communicate well. You're patient with those who don't have your technical skills. You're reliable; when you say you'll do something, people who know you know that it will get done without further prompting.

US

We understand the high value of great developers and treat them accordingly, but that's not why we're a great place to work. We won't force tools on you and we only use a methodology if it's makes sense for us. We'll not only listen to your ideas on how to make things better but we'll encourage you to go get it done. In our market, we're not only the leader, we're the innovator. Your ideas will see the light of day, usually within a month or two from birth. We're all about making our customers happy and being the best software company our customers have ever dealt with. We strive for excellence and continuous improvement, in our products, our systems, and ourselves.

We are about great service, and as important as happy customers are, we want you to be happy and we want this to be the best (and maybe last) job you'll ever have. It's important to us that you find a good balance between your job and the rest of your life.

THE JOB

You will take over the development of our flagship software application. The code is in decent shape, but it could always be in better shape. That's why we're looking for you. The product is written in Java and uses Swing. If you feel that parts of the code need to be rewritten, you can rewrite them. You're a designer, a tester, a release engineer, a bug fixer, and tech support all in one. We're a small company, so we don't have separate people in each those roles (yet).

Our product is used by thousands of customers, and with releases every month or two, you'll have immediate feedback on how you're doing. Over time, the product will slowly take on your character: great performance, great quality, and a great solution for the task at hand.

The job is in Atlanta, but we're open to remote telecommuters.

Is this you? Does it sound like a good fit? Write us and let us know if you're interested.
