For 25 years, Rainforest Action Network (RAN) has campaigned for the forests, their inhabitants and the natural systems that sustain life. In coalition with Indigenous communities and allies from around the world, RAN uses non-violent direct action, grassroots organizing, education, and strategic communications to challenge corporations to stop destructive operations, respect human rights, and adopt comprehensive policies that reduce their contributions to global warming.
In January 2010 RAN launched the Change Chevron campaign, joining the global effort to pressure Chevron to clean up the billions of gallons of oil-contaminated waste that were dumped in the Ecuador Rainforest. RAN is calling on Chevron to clean up its toxic legacy in Ecuador and to adopt a global human rights and environmental policy that will ensure what happened in Ecuador never happens again. The campaign unites communities, investors, shareholders, religious leaders, celebrities, students, policy makers and Chevron employees to transform the oil giant. This is a multi-year campaign and a top priority for the organization.
