Provide supervision and leadership to the production art team. Direct and coordinate activities for art production for Garmin's consumer products. Be responsible for the overall workflow and accountability for a team of production artist. Coordinate with the user experience team leaders and project leads to set production art priorities, but yet remaining hands-on for precise job execution.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Lead and mentor Production Artists with diverse capability levels that are creating graphics that will be embedded into GPS products.
Directly supervise production artist team members with daily observation, assuring appropriate attendance, and providing assistance to team members
Work with Human Resources to address employee relations issues as needed including writing and conducting annual performance evaluations.
Be responsible for the growth and success of a production art team by overseeing training and mentoring of new associates.
Schedule jobs based on project priorities and manage a scheduling system for each project aiming for specific software development milestones. Work closely with user experience design teams to give visualization ideas to new design concepts.
Report on the status of jobs in progress.
Ensure graphics are finalized and delivered on time to the software teams.
Ensure graphic designs maintain consistency across product lines.
Oversee the art production process to improve efficiency.
Evaluate positive performance within team members and address performance issues in a timely manner.
Manage the collection and maintenance of graphic assets in appropriate repository area for the software engineering department.
Partner with user experience designer and software engineers to understand complete requirements for tasks.
Keep track and estimate resources and time needed to get tasks done by negotiating deadlines when necessary.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with the creation of the digital artwork.
Stay abreast of graphic trends being used in other consumer products.
Participate in interviewing and other recruiting activities for the production artist position.
Maintain up to date knowledge with new graphic productions technologies, software and tools.
Direct, design/create concept ideas for the entire team.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications or a related field / equivalent education.
4 years of related production art or graphics design experience.
4 years leadership experience production design environment.
Strong graphics design background.
Experience with Adobe design software (Photoshop, Illustrator).
Must be flexible and able to work in a fast paced, demanding environment.
Must be able to communicate ideas and directions clearly both verbally and written.
Ability to assign work and responsibilities effectively to ensure efficient workload for each team member.
Must be able to interact positively with other teams.
Must be organized and have the ability to prioritize and delegate tasks efficiently to ensure proper workload for each team member.
Excellent art directing skills.
Strong portfolio which demonstrates successful and a high quality body of work in design/art.
Have the ability to increase team members ownership and accountability to encourage high quality work.
Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others.
Must be flexible and able to work accurately in a fast paced environment.
An online portfolio demonstrating a strong visual and conceptual design sense and a superior understanding of current coding practices, typography, color, and layout.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
8+ years leadership experience in a production design environment.
Experience in Visual Communications or Graphic Design.
Previous consumer electronics experience perferred.
