The Company: Empower Campaigns
Founded by leaders in social media, grassroots organizing, and progressive political and nonprofit campaigns---including senior staff from President Obamas 2008 campaign---Empower is building a new kind of technology platform, combining the most powerful aspects of the social web with the fundamentals of winning campaigns: empowerment, accountability, measurability, and organizational structure. We believe the social web can play a central role in helping organizations get real work done.
We are seeking candidates with a burning need to do something meaningful and fulfilling with their talents, and a work ethic to match our ambitious goals. Empower is located in the Jackson Square area of San Francisco near the Transamerica Pyramid. We're well funded and offering industry standard compensation and early employee equity.

You'll help shape the product, contributing ideas, evaluating new technologies and prototyping functionality, and you'll help shape the infrastructure team as it grows.
Requirements:
* 5+ years experience in application development for a high traffic, preferably consumer-facing web property
* Expert knowledge of object-oriented programming and multiple high level languages
* Experience with service oriented architectures and API development

* Experience with messaging systems like RabbitMQ preferred
* Thorough knowledge of HTTP, Apache and the server process lifecycle
* Experience with server-side caching (e.g. Memcache), database partitioning, offloading of assets to CDN, and otherwise enhancing performance and scalability
