Founded in 1999, fxguide provides news and information related to filmmaking, visual effects, editing, and motion graphics design. Sister site fxphd is the number one online training site for professionals in these fields, with members in 70 countries around the world.
With our sites having grown in popularity, we now have a need for a full-time developer to grow and build the WordPress-based sites for our readers and members. We offer a professional, creative, and flexible work environment where we hope you will take the reins and lead our online and mobile platform efforts.
Your tasks:
- Maintain and improve our front end CMS (WordPress) at fxguide and fxphd
- Maintain and improve our custom PHP media delivery system at fxphd.com
- Maintain our VBulletin discussion forums
- Work with our mobile developer to provide custom data for our fxguide applications
- Linux sysadmin help such as firewalls, backup, and VPN licensing
Skills you need:
- 3+ years professional experience in web development
- PHP and MySQL expert
- HTML/CSS/XML/Javascript expert
- WordPress CMS knowledge
- Comfort with developing for WebKit
- Knowledge of cross-platform browser issues
- Comfort with command-line Linux
Experience that is a plus -- but we feel you can also learn and grow into:
- Development of web caching, utilizing services such as cachefly and local squid acceleration
- E-Commerce functions such as shopping carts, PayPal, and Verisign
- WordPress customization and plugin development
- Plesk web control panel
- Adobe Photoshop basic knowledge
- Linux tools such as rsync, iptables, FLEXlm license servers
