Sunlight Foundation: Graphic Designer (Web)

(Washington, DC)

The Sunlight Foundation is looking for an exceptional web graphic designer to work full time on the Sunlight Labs team. Work with a passionate group of people and have the freedom to design fun, interesting, beautiful and sometimes quirky products to engage the public around government transparency related issues. Also, have your voice be heard as you push the government in the right design directions aesthetically and structurally.

The ideal candidate would

  • have 3-5 years experience plus a design related degree (this is not an entry level position)
  • have a working knowledge of HTML and CSS (experience with a web framework templating system such as Django, Rails, WordPress themes, etc. also a plus)
  • have a working knowledge of any of the following: Actionscript/Flash, Javascript/JQuery or HTML5
  • be interested in making data visually interesting and understandable
  • worry about the details of a project as much as the overall design
  • be able to communicate their design decisions with designers and non-designers alike
  • consider the user experience from start to finish
  • be able to collaboratively work and communicate with developers
  • enjoy constant learning and growth
  • have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • be excited and passionate about their work
  • be able to produce high-quality work at the pace of the daily media cycle and with a minimum of oversight
