The data manager works for the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life and is responsible for the acquisition, entry and management of data and metadata for the Pew-Templeton Global Religious Futures (GRF) project. The GRF project aims to increase people's knowledge of religion around the world through public opinion surveys, demographic analyses and other social science research. The data manager handles all aspects of data management for the GRF Web site, coordinating with the Web, creative, editorial and outside vendor teams.
• Improve current systems of cataloging, organizing and managing all data collected and produced for the GRF project.
• Improve current research databases, data entry forms and protocols for survey data output as well as demographic and religious restrictions data.
• Identify, acquire and enter data for GRF projects.
• Automate data entry processes for survey data output as well as demographic and coded data as much as possible and perform and/or supervise data entry.
• Participate as a member of the project planning and development team for the GRF Web site, with
Web, editorial, technology, communications and outside vendor staff.
• Design and manage a relational database that will contain the information to be displayed on the GRF Web site, including interactive survey, demographic and coded data, as well as static graphics, images and text.
• Develop methods to standardize data and database design so that new survey output and other research data can be added to one centralized and integrated database.
• Develop strategies to produce static and interactive Web site charts, tables, maps and content off the common relational database.
• Provide quality assurance for the Web data and work with the Forum’s Web staff and vendor to ensure that data are accurate and displaying correctly on the Web site.
• Ensure that appropriate updates are made to the GRF country, region and topic Web pages as information changes and develop a process for regular review, including text associated with the Web pages.
Education/Training/Experience
• Master’s degree or equivalent experience required.
• 3-5 years experience designing, managing and administering research databases.
• Prior experience in public policy research and/or sociology of religion a plus.
• Familiarity or experience with survey or demographic research a plus.
• Excellent computer and Web skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database programs required.
