Quizlet.com + CollectorsWeekly.com: Front-end Developer

(San Francisco, CA)

Old School Industries is looking for a top-notch front-end developer to join our small team. We manage two fast-growing web businesses, Quizlet.com and Collectorsweekly.com. You will be working on our overall site experiences and developing new functionality. You should have a strong graphical sense and be able to quickly mockup, photoshop, and code your designs. You should have great UX intuition and experience.

Required Skills

  • Great design instinct
  • Very strong HTML+CSS skills
  • Expert javascript skills (with OO and framework experience)

Bonus:

  • Experience with Canvas and/or Raphael.js
  • Experience building games
  • An interest in education and/or old stuff (antiques, vintage, etc :))
  • Some PHP experience

Responsibilities:

  • Building fun, education-oriented javascript games for Quizlet.
  • Finding pain points in our existing products and fixing them. We like fresh eyes!
  • Improving key user flows like the sign up orientation process, the combine flashcard sets process, etc.
  • Giving our sites a visual refresh where you think it's needed.
  • Working with the team to brainstorm, design, and implement new features.

Quizlet is a fast-growing site that helps students study online. The site has 850,000 registered users and 70 million user-uploaded flashcards. We have a passion for helping students and teachers and, as our testimonial page shows, we've helped hundreds of thousands already.

The Collectors Weekly is a resource for collectors and people who love antiques and vintage items. Our goal is to create a great place to explore and learn about collecting, and a showcase for the passion and knowledge of collectors everywhere. We have high-quality, hand-crafted data in 850 categories of antiques and collecting, and we want to cover even more. Launched in 2007, Collectorsweekly.com is now one of the leading sites in our category, with over 200,000 monthly visitors.

You must be in the Bay Area and be able to commute to our SOMA office in San Francisco. We want the best and we'll pay competitively. We're working on two very exciting opportunities and we have the existing traction to show for it -- now we just need more great people to help us shape and implement our vision.

Apply: Send an email to andrew@oldschoolindustriesllc.com with a resume and links to a few sites you're proud of working on.
