Linux Administrator at Palo Alto Software (Eugene, OR 97401)

We create popular desktop and web-based software for small businesses and entrepreneurs, including the retail and online market leader Business Plan Pro and the popular team email tool Email Center Pro. To succeed in this role, you need the skills to manage all aspects of server administration to deliver great performance and rock-solid security for high-volume Java-based web applications.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Administering and troubleshooting Linux servers to deliver highly reliable, stable, and responsive customer access to our commercial Web applications
* Ensuring proper security, confidentiality, and backup and recovery processes to protect sensitive customer data
* Conducting performance analysis and configuring, tuning, and optimizing servers for top performance with highly scalable usage
* Implementing best practices in server and application monitoring, alerting, and performance reporting
* Writing scripts to automate IT and admin tasks
* Acting as first responder for 24/7 after-hours issues and emergencies
* Building and maintaining test environments for scalability and load testing
* Working with the Amazon Web Services cloud platform, and virtual machines in general

Requirements and qualifications:
* Four-year degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field
* 5+ years of hands-on professional experience as a Linux administrator
* Expert knowledge of server hardware and configuration
* Highly knowledgeable about OS patching, system hardening, and other security best practices
* LPIC, Linux+, or RHCE certification or equivalent demonstrated knowledge
* Proven experience hosting Java applications
* Scripting skills (Perl, Bash, etc.)
* Strong analytical, collaborative, and communication skills
