User Experience/Front-End Developer at Shoebuy.com, Inc. (Boston, MA)

Shoebuy is looking for a talented and creative User Experience/Front-End Developer to help build the next generation of its e-commerce platform. The ideal candidate has a passion for designing and implementing intuitive and visually appealing user interfaces for the web, and takes pride in producing lightweight, readable, and maintainable code.

Responsibilities:
- Creation of user interface/front-end design specs for new features. Specs consist of textual guidelines, flowcharts, sketches/wire-frames, and mockups.
- Converting mockups to hand-crafted code that is clean, robust, agile/flexible to changes during iteration phases, and compatible with major browsers.
- Refine existing front-end code to add new functionality and configurability, enhance visual appeal, and improve performance.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of web technologies including (X)HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX, JSON and XML (5+ years).
- Experience and confidence working with JSP and Perl to integrate UI components with the application backend. (3+ years).
- Previous experience building UIs for medium-large web sites. (3+ years).
- Familiarity with graphics applications such as Adobe Photoshop, understanding of web image formats, alpha transparency, favicons, etc. (3+ years).
- Experience using source control software (distributed source control a plus) (2+ years).
- Experience with UNIX environment and comfortable working in the terminal (3+ years).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and in a team-based environment under time-sensitive deadlines.
- Possess organizational and initiative skills, detail-oriented, and the ability to choose/integrate technologies to solve problems and meet business requirements.
- Desire to continually stay up-to-date on the latest, emerging web technologies and trends.

Recommended:
- Well-developed portfolio of proven, client-facing work.
- Understanding of SEO best practices and semantic markup.
- Familiarity with next generation HTML 5 and CSS 3 technologies.
- Ability to write standards-based code that validates (XHTML/CSS/508).
- Experience with WordPress or similar CMS architectures.
- Experience developing mobile-friendly sites for devices like iPhone/iPad.
