The role of the technical operations engineer is to be responsible for Quantcast’s large-scale, mission critical data analysis systems. Ensuring results are available 24/7, the Technical Operations Engineer will work on complex data problems and keep very large-scale production systems humming along at all times in an environment where data sets are constantly growing. The ideal candidate will be intensely curious about both the larger picture of how production systems interrelate as well as being able to dig in to understand the individual components and provide creative improvements to the overall system and implementations.
In accomplishing this goal, the engineer will perform such tasks as:
· Maintaining and scaling existing data flows and analysis jobs running on Quantcast’s 1000+ node hadoop cluster
· Responding to and correcting process failures
· Helping the development teams to validate and deploy new code
· Developing tools that improve cluster operations
· Assisting business users when custom data is required for a client
· Being periodically on call
Requirements
· Capable software engineer, comfortable with Java or C++, exceptional with perl/python/ruby.
· Has an understanding of databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and SQL
· Experience with Hadoop a major plus
· A detail-oriented personality
· Excellent communication skills
· Likes to own things, and drives resolution to projects
· Holds a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Master’s is preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
· Some experience in a technical operations role
