Amazon Video on Demand is changing the way people watch movies and TV shows by streaming HD digital content straight to their living rooms. We have the largest digital on-demand catalog that keeps growing with every new movie and TV episode released. Powering this experience is a scalable, high performance content ingestion and encoding pipeline that leverages Amazon’s cloud infrastructure, and a world class content delivery platform that makes our content ubiquitous on the latest hardware devices on the market.
There’s a new team at Amazon Video on Demand in early stages of developing a brand new product. We're working on innovative solutions to challenging problems touching diverse areas such as video encoding, HD video playback, user experience, EC2, S3, Lucene and a number of amazon proprietary technologies. This high visibility team is looking for motivated software engineers for a role where the opportunity to make an impact is limited only by their capacity.
You will join the project at the ground floor as one of the founding members of the team and will be responsible for laying the technical foundation of the project. Working with agile methodologies, you will get a chance to wear many hats as you help design a product and build out parts of large distributed systems using Ruby on Rails. This is a unique opportunity to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with zero operational load. We have a smart, creative team that loves learning new technologies while having fun together. If that sounds like you, come join us!
What we’re looking for:
• Solid skills in atleast one of Ruby, Java or C++. Experience with Rails framework is a plus.
• Strong object oriented design skills.
• Knowledge of databases, scalable distributed systems and service oriented architecture.
• Comfortable dealing with ambiguity.
• Willingness to take ownership of challenges faced by the team and drive them to resolution.
• Focus on customer’s needs and desire to build technology solutions to address them.
• Open to agile software development methods.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field with a minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience.
