VisiTrend is looking for a full-time software engineer. We were founded in 2008 and focus on developing interactive visual analytics tools to support analysis and understanding of large, complex data sets. Basically, we make pictures out of databases and let users interact with them to perform advanced analysis. The general technology domains we work in include information visualization (http://www.infovis-wiki.net), statistics, machine learning, and data mining. There is a heavy R&D component to our work and we do publish in academic conferences and journals. Because of this, the ability to write non-code text is a huge plus. Applicants should also have the desire and ability to learn new technologies. We work with a lot of open source tools and will be integrating with some such as R, Weka, Octave, SQLite, Snort, and Wireshark. APIs, languages and tools we'll be working with include graphics APIs (OpenGL), Java, web apps (html5, flex, ajax, gwt), databases, cyber security tools (Snort, WireShark) and statistics and data mining tools. In general, the more you know about these technologies the better, but we're mainly looking for competence and someone who can learn quickly.
Our development environment includes Eclipse, SVN, and Trac as well as a lot of related tools. We will be working with virtual machines that will include Linux, OSX, and Windows environments. Familiarity with UNIX based systems is pretty essential.
Some of our work is for U.S. government agencies such as the Department of Defense, thus applicant must be a U.S. citizen.
We are a startup in a unique position of having strong revenue without investors. Because of this, we can offer not only cash but also great equity positions (if that's something that interests you) with very low risk of dilution. We are really looking for someone who wants to be part of the integral team that grows the company and directly benefits from that growth.
Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience. We're looking for a start date as early as July 1 but can be flexible.
