The MySpace Linux team operates a collection of over 1200 Linux-based servers spread across four data centers nationwide. Among our responsibilities are content storage and delivery for images, streaming video, and streaming music; ongoing infrastructure support; and support of other teams in the organization who operate Linux-based applications. Our system is growing at an astounding rate, and we expect the server count to exceed 2,000 by year end.
As a system engineer on the Linux team, you will be responsible for assisting with the architecture and build-out of new projects and systems, as well as for solving difficult issues in our existing environment. The system engineering group has one goal: to build systems that are as easy to manage and monitor as possible, leading to an extremely high availability rating.

Responsibilities:
Work with other engineers and architects in designing the architecture of new systems.
Find and implement new ways of managing our existing architecture.
Troubleshoot and resolve difficult production issues in a timely fashion.
Qualifications:
Excellent knowledge of Linux (Gentoo / CentOS preferred)
Excellent ability to learn and think on your feet.
Knowledge of common Linux technologies (PAM, proc filesystem, sysctl, etc.)
Knowledge of common network protocols and their associated servers (NFS, HTTP, NTP, etc.)
Knowledge of networking from a system administration point of view (netmasks, CIDR notation, etc.)
Excellent communications skills, both oral and written.
Experience:
5+ years experience with Linux administration in a professional setting
Previous experience in an Internet-related or other high-availability environment preferred.
Strong scripting knowledge (bash, perl, ...)
Other duties as assigned
