HitFix is seeking an accomplished Senior Developer with Rails experience to join our growing team. The ideal candidate is an extremely talented developer who understands how to architect a site and related applications for scalability and consumer success. 

You should be well-versed in Ruby on Rails, highly motivated, goal-oriented, and have experience using Rails extensively in consumer facing web applications for more than two years. This is an opportunity to do your best work and guide the technical direction of an evolving, well-funded entertainment industry start-up. We currently reach over 1 Million monthly unique users and have plans to rapidly scale to 5 Million+ users over the next 24 months.
 
Background and Experience:

  • BS Degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
  • Ruby: 2+ years of hands-on experience with Ruby and the entire rails application stack
  • Experience using Rails for a consumer-facing web application
  • Distributed source control experience with Git
  • Experience with RESTful APIs
  • Skilled in model design, controller construction, systems administration and you're fanatical about doing things the Rails way
  • Other knowledge that is a plus ? Capistrano, HTML/CSS/CSS3, Haproxy, Phusion Passenger, ImageMagick, attachment-fu, TDD
Experience architecting scalable applications and sites, and solving problems with system scaling A broad, general software background (minimum 5 yrs experience) that includes skills outside the rails universe (linux, shell scripts, sendmail, etc.) Accustomed to Agile methodologies and test-driven development Familiarity with the entire suite of rails caching techniques and other approaches to capacity/performance optimization Knowledge of JavaScript (Prototype, Scriptaculous, jQuery) and AJAX Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to explain technical issues to a non-technical audienceDemonstrated and repeated success as a lead developerStrong work ethic and a can-do attitude
  • Prior work with mobile applications is a plus (not required)
 
This is a full-time position and you will be expected to work remotely from your home with regular weekly in-person meetings and occasional travel for company offsites. If and when an office is established, you will be expected to work from the office.

Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate should think of herself/himself as a startup minded engineer ready to take ownership and make large, immediate contributions. You can truly think through the product and help in product decisions and roadmap, develop smart and intuitive interfaces and are capable of tackling anything else that might come up within the development realm.

The ideal candidate will also be able to execute on short and long term priorities to develop and grow a scalable website and related applications.

 You will be expected to work creatively with the business team to generate technical requirements from business objectives. Key areas of focus include:

  • Develop and enhance our killer app ? a location based Event Calendar
  • Maintain, re-factor and expand our rails CMS application        
  • Design and implement testing and QA systems/approaches
  • Oversee our extension into new platforms including mobile, eReaders and Set-top boxes
  • Enhance the overall availability and resilience of the system as a whole
  • Draw upon your vast experience and knowledge to define a solid technical direction that reflects the latest thinking in the industry
  • Work with two other team members to establish a smooth, efficient development process.

HitFix has a presence in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Boston, but this candidate must be based in San Francisco or Los Angeles.
