Description
Novell is seeking a talented and motivated application developer to assume the role of software engineer for our business service management products. We are looking for people with the right blend of skills, education, experience, and attitude to fill this exciting and challenging position.

The successful candidate will have experience programming on and communicating with a team of talented software engineers, and can succeed with minimal supervision or oversight. We are seeking someone highly experienced in Java technologies with extensive experience working with open source projects. A solid understanding of JavaScript/AJAX architectures and Scripting Frameworks is a must along with experience working on server side solutions. A willingness to answer questions, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to focus on problem resolution until completion are required. This position will work with the development, testing, product management and documentation teams to design develop and test software for an Enterprise class product.

BSM technology helps today's Global 2000 companies effectively manage their IT services by aligning IT with the business. To do this, BSM integrates network, system, application, end user, and business metric information into real-time business service dashboards. Through Managed Objects' BSM platform, companies effectively monitor, manage, and report on the services IT delivers to the business - services like online trading and e-commerce.

Ideal candidates will have worked in an entrepreneurial environment and will be known for their ability to help the team work towards solutions. The candidate will have 5-10 years of experience in commercial software development.

Responsibilities Include:
- Design and develop software products related to Novells Business Service Management solution
- Help engineering team achieve organizational goals and objectives
- Provide solutions for wide range of complex problems; independently determine and develop solutions with limited supervision
- Responsible for developing new programs and proofing the program to develop needed changes to assure production of a quality product
- Responsible for analysis of current programs including performance, diagnosis and troubleshooting of problem programs, and designing solutions to problematic programming
- Analyze system specifications and translate system requirements to task specifications
- Entering, tracking defects, and responding promptly and professionally to bug reports
- Interacting with cross-geo team members
- Providing input for product documentation
- Researching customer issues and product initiatives

Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related discipline
- Proven ability to design, develop and support Web based applications using Java technologies
- Highly experienced using Java, Java Server Pages (JSP), JavaScript, J2EE, HTML, CSS, AJAX
- Strong troubleshooting skills Both server side and client side
- A solid understanding of distributed computing environment concepts
- Possess excellent communication skills (written and verbal English)
- Must be able to assume project responsibility and deliver on milestones
- Must be able to work as an individual contributor within a team
- Ability to solve problems quickly and completely with minimal oversight from supervisor
- Ability to multi-task and stay organized in a dynamic work environment
- Passion for software development
- Ability to think outside the box
- Possess a positive attitude
- Self-starter with the ability to dig-in

- Experience in Java Swing a plus
- Experience in SCRUM a plus
- Experience in small companies or startups is highly desired
- Experience in Network Management Systems is highly desired

Preferred Skills
Preferred candidates will have at least 2 years of demonstrated professional experience with two or more of the following:
- Google Web Toolkit (GWT)
- JavaScript libraries YUI and ExtJs
- Unit Testing Framework (JUnit)
- Knowledge of Liferay, Drools, Spring, Tomcat, Enunciate, Derby
- Knowledge of database design
- Knowledge of system performance paradigms
- Knowledge of RESTful Web application design
- Load balancing, clusters, distributed execution, agents
- Experience in one or more of the following management systems:
- CA Unicenter
- Remedy
- HP OpenView and/or HP NMMi
- IBM Tivoli
- NetIQ/App Manager
- BMC Patrol
- Netflow

- ITIL
- Soap/RMI/Corba
- Memory profilers
- Experience with complex configurations such as proxy configurations, large-scale integration, multiple directory configurations, and security
