Position Overview
Mid-to-senior systems administrator to manage all technical aspects of the MFA Design department.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for design, implementation, maintenance and operation of all technology related issues for the staff/40+ graduate students in the department.
- Establish technology policies/protocols for the 24/7 operation of the department and classrooms.
- Maintain/configure the Apple XServes which host the program’s website, and internal file sharing network.
- Responsible for installing, maintaining, and servicing servers and client stations. Install and configuring software on client stations and maintaining updates as needed.
- Provide a consistent operating system image to Macintosh workstations, and integrate the workstations with peripherals.
- Manage, coordinate and monitor the departmental website.
- Coordinate the podcast series, including the hiring of content producers, the scheduling of tapings, the posting of new episodes, and the configuration of OS X Server’s podcast service.
- Calibrate, maintain and troubleshoot all printers.
- Serve as a liaison with faculty regarding classroom technology needs.
- Offer workshops to graduate students on a variety of software/hardware topics.
- Research equipment purchases. Purchase/ track all tech equipment for the department.
- Work with SVA’s departments to maintain and ensure the MFAD facilities are operating properly.
- Operate the studio security system and process card keys.
- Provide technical support in the coordination/ operation of all department events.
-Work with chairpersons to develop new media venues.
- Stay abreast of current software /hardware developments, and trends in digital art and design.
- Propose/develop means of digital outreach through existing and future platforms.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, 3+ years experience
- Expert knowledge of Mac OSX Server, especially Blojsom. Familiarity with Apple XServe, in “headless” configuration, Apple Remote Desktop.
- Knowledge of all Adobe software(Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design, Dreamweaver, Flash, After Effects) editing software such as Final Cut Pro; HTML and other web scripting languages.
- Ability to troubleshoot software/hardware, including high-end video, camera, and video editing equipment a must.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, organization, time management, and solution-oriented skills.
- Design or creative production background and knowledge of technology trends.
- Ability to work independently and as a team, detail oriented and understand basic design principles
