
Solution Architect Position Description:
The Solution Architect (SA) is a senior level position that leverages data warehouse technical knowledge to promote sales of Teradata data warehouse solutions within a Communications Industry Major Account. The SA has broad knowledge of the data warehouse space with expert knowledge of Teradata products and their application within the Communications Industries. The SA articulates data warehouse architectures and trends, and provides technical knowledge and consulting solutions leadership in sales support activities. The SA establishes or enhances mid-level customer relationships, provides technical expertise on engagements and identifies new target application and professional services opportunities within our accounts. The SA will be expected to deliver high-quality, customer billable consulting and/or project management on PS engagements and oversee the development of the customer engagement model for additional services. In addition, the SA plays an active role in pre-sale and post-sale activity, ensuring a long-term partnership with Teradata customers.
Major Responsibilities
Provide direct and substantial support of the team's revenue and margin objectives by:
â?¢ Participating in the development and execution of winning sales strategies.
â?¢ Assisting with account qualification utilizing knowledge of industry solutions, data models & data volumes for the various types of Communications companies and applying this knowledge to determine applicability of Teradata's offerings.
â?¢ Understanding, documenting and articulating the customer's current data warehouse/data mart architecture. This includes a complete inventory of the customer's data warehouses and data marts as well as their respective business functions.Â
â?¢ Understanding competitive products such as Oracle, IBM, Informix, RedBrick, SAS, etc.
â?¢ Understanding mainframe and client/server computing environments.
â?¢ Demonstrating and utilizing knowledge of business problems of Industry customers.
â?¢ Articulating Teradata's solutions to the business problems mentioned above using Teradata RDBMS, Teradata Financial Management, Teradata Supply Chain Intelligence, Teradata CRM, Data Mart consolidation, Active Data Warehouse, Dual Active and related solution offerings.
â?¢ Being a trusted advisor to the customer's decision-makers by establishing credibility and expertise in data warehouse technology/architecture, marketing analysis and automation systems, customer profitability solutions, and other areas related to Teradata's solution offerings.
â?¢ Identifying new application opportunities that will lead to additional data being added to the customer's data warehouse as well as high margin PS engagements.
â?¢ Generating interest with the decision-makers that leads to follow-on meetings and advancement of the sales process.
â?¢ Contributing to the financial objectives of the team through business development and demand-creation activities.
â?¢ Demonstrating ability to relate business problems to the underlying data and the ability of Data Warehouse technology to solve the business problems.
â?¢ Designing, leading and executing winning competitive database benchmarks.
â?¢ Managing and participating in PS engagements that position Teradata as a trusted adviser to our customers.
â?¢ Timely, accurate administration & reporting (PSA, expenses, forecasts, project status, change orders, etc.)
â?¢ Contributing Knowledge Assets to the Teradata Knowledge Management System.
Essential Functions and SkillsÂ
The position requires a number of specific skills, including:

â?¢ Expert knowledge of Teradata products including SQL
â?¢ Experience in working with industry customer and target accounts.

Scope and Work Environment
The Solution Architect will work from a virtual (home) office, some travel is required.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
Candidates should meet the following qualifications and requirements:
� Five years or more of operational or technical RDBMS experience in data warehouse implementation
â?¢ Client interface and consulting skills required
â?¢ Industry experience highly desirable
â?¢ Teradata technical experience highly desirable
� Proven capabilities in relational database technology in the application development environment (Teradata, DB2, Oracle, Informix), and operational knowledge of third party BI and data transformation tools (Cognos, MicroStrategy, Business Objects, Hyperion, Informatica, Ab Initio, and others)
â?¢ Solid understanding of current data warehousing topics
â?¢ BA or BS in Business or Computer Science (MBA or MS is preferable)
