Senior Web Applications Engineer

Position Summary:

As a Senior Web Applications Engineer you will be part of a small, highly experienced application development team at American Public Media. You will be part of a dedicated team of engineers who are developing groundbreaking new applications designed to engage and involve the listeners and viewers of public media. If you?ve ever had an interest in public broadcasting and want to change the way listeners engage public media, this is the job for you! You will also be part of a new APM technology team located in the SF Bay Area.

 

Here is what you will be doing every day

  • You will develop high performance web applications using the usual LAMP cast of characters: (X)HTML/CSS, PHP, Linux, MySQL and Javascript.
  • Starting on day one you will be expected to start contributing to current and strategic application development.
-     You will work collaboratively on interface design and implementation.
  • You will work closely with your fellow team members at the APM home office.
  • Through daily video conferences you will engage with engineers, designers and content creators.
  • We expect you to stay current with emerging trends in social networking, digital media and web application development technologies.
  • You will be directly involved in the creation of new public media application proposals both for the web and for mobile devices.
 

 

Required Education and Experience:

When we say ?senior? we really mean it. We need someone who has ?done it before? and can hit the ground running fast! We are presently in the middle of developing two major web apps and need you to contribute immediately.

  • Minimum of 7 years exp. in: javascript, object oriented PHP, MySQL, MVC design patterns, UNIX/Linux.
  • Solid information architecture sensibility.
  • Familiar with content systems.
  • Experience in working with large-scale, consumer-oriented Web sites.
  • Understanding and competency in standard web development best practices.
  • Understanding and strong interest in social media applications.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer technology or similar field, or equivalent experience.
  • System administration and Apache administration experience helpful but not required.
