IGN, the largest videogame information site on the web, is looking for a motivated, entrepreneurial minded Senior Interaction Designer to help define the future of IGN's overall user experience.
As a Senior Interaction Designer at IGN, you are a flexible, results-oriented, and experienced design leader who will drive IGN?s user experience strategy on key initiatives from inception to launch. You can drive significant consumer insight based on user-centered design research, have significant technical expertise and extensive leadership skills. You combine a great instinct for developing compelling user experiences with a strong focus on users needs, strategic thinking, and a technical aptitude to work cross functionally with engineering, editorial and other internal business stakeholders.
You should be a high contribution team member, able to operate independently with little oversight by the design leadership in a fast paced environment. You should be able and willing to also mentor and help guide less seasoned members of the team.
Responsibilities include
- Leading the definition of user requirements while collaborating with Product, Engineering, Editorial, and other stakeholder groups to define the overall user experience vision and scope of specific projects
- Creating and owning the interaction design schedule of specific projects & initiatives
- Leading the generation of new user experiences from research and customer insight findings to final design
- Manage cross-disciplinary alignment around new initiatives ? serve as a key influencer on gaining support for and advocating user experience innovation
- Apply user-centered design processes to create high quality user experiences, some examples include:
- Defining User Experience themes
- Developing Behavioral User Personas
- Goal & Task Analysis
- Drafting Storyboards and application flow
- Creating Sitemaps and page/module inventories
- Define detailed use cases
- Define Wireframes, Content Hierarchy, and overall page layout / functionality priority based on user research
- Scoping, planning and managing multiple design projects from strategic design definition to launch
- Create the user interaction model, workflows, information architecture, schematics and interface guidelines/specifications
- Facilitating project communication and asset exchange across a multidisciplinary team throughout all phases of the project
- Helping create interactive prototypes for user research
- Working with other designers, product managers, and engineers to setup, observe, and translate usability studies into design improvements
Skills
- Candidate must have examples they can show that demonstrate strategic creative thinking and be able to articulate why they chose the way they did to meet strategic objectives
- 3-6 years of experience in Interaction Design or Information Architecture participating in the complete product development lifecycle of several successfully launched websites
- Must be process driven, demonstrate strong interaction design skills, careful attention to details and have expert knowledge of user centered design principles
- Significant people and organization management skills
- Prefer degree in HCI, Industrial Design or Computer Science
- Must have a solid grasp of graphic and web design principles and an excellent understanding of current web technologies
- Must be able to develop new approaches to complex design problems via different design research methods
- Must have strong analytical and leadership skills
- Must be organized, able to act independently, and be able to rapidly switch between different projects in a fast-paced environment
