Job Description:
The Research Engineer is responsible for creating, designing and implementing technology solutions to research science problems in the areas of statistical machine translation,machine learning and natural language processing. In this position, the incumbent will apply computer science principles and concepts, including advanced concepts in statistical natural language processing and machine learning to develop solutions in C++, Perl and/or Python based upon scientific research for the theoretical advancement of human language technology and its practical application.
Initially this role will focus on projects which require superlative C++ programming skills for syntax based MT system component changes. Longer term initiatives will emphasize engineering solutions for Language Weaver's core translation components. The ideal candidate is extremely enthusiastic about related principles and MT R&D in general, with strong industry programming experience.
Qualifications:
BS Computer Science, with desire to continue graduate work or PhD/foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field. Minimum 2 years combination of professional/research experience programming solutions and applications in C++. OOP Perl and/or Python a significant plus. Preferred areas of experience include statistical machine translation, statistical natural language processing and machine learning.
Excellent time management, interpersonal, problem solving, organizational, and technical skills required. The candidate must have the ability to demonstrate initiative, adaptability, and to think beyond "outside of the box". Must have the ability to coordinate a wide range of assignments by managing dependencies, expectations and effectively communicate with stakeholders.
