Position Summary: Information Technology Services (ITS) is NYU's central organization for technology-based services for University faculty, students, staff, and administrators. ITS provides computer, network, telephony and Internet services to the entire University. ITS comprises the Office of the Chief Information Technology Officer and several service departments working together in support of the broad spectrum of University activities.
ITS is seeking an Information Technology Specialist for the .edu eServices Academic Technology team. Specifically, this position will focus on the development of Sakai which is a community source education and academic collaboration platform. This will include interacting with an international group of developers from across various Universities and other external groups to produce a simple, accessible, scalable and secure Learning Management System (Sakai).
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in open source software as s/he will be responsible for identifying API (application programming interface) and will write Java code to satisfy API including unit testing coverage and provide technical documentation. Additionally, on the front end, s/he will working from wire frames and assist in development of Javascript to provide the user interface layer. This position will have significant production and service responsibilities for deploying Sakai in production at NYU.

Qualifications/Required Education: Bachelor's degree
Required Experience: 3 years' relevant experience working with programming web technologies including Java and Javascript and software development life cycle practices.
Preferred Experience: Experience with SQL and automated testing. Prefer candidate with experience in educational technology/learning management systems.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Advanced knowledge of software development practice, running production quality systems, Java, Javascript, and UNIX.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Java content repository, Sling, and at least one automated testing tool.
