The Boston University Center for Digital Imaging Arts (CDIA) is seeking freelance web designers in Washington, DC to teach daytime and night/weekend classes in a variety of topics.
Our classes include:
- Standards-based XHTML
- CSS
- JavaScript and jQuery
- Flash and ActionScript
- PHP and MySQL
- XML, JSON and AJAX techniques
- Flex
- Joomla! module development
- WordPress plug-in and theme development
- Information architecture and usability
- Designing portfolio sites and working with clients
CDIA offers certificate programs in graphic and web design and web development (as well as digital filmmaking, photography, and 3D animation). Classes are taught by working professionals, who bring their experience and industry knowledge to the classroom.

- Perfect for experienced freelancers to supplement their income, or full-timers who want to give back
- This is not a full-time salaried position; contracts run a week at a time
- Each course runs for one full week, Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm
- Instructors' commitment is generally one course (one week) at a time
- We also have a (lesser) need for teachers in night/weekend courses, if daytime doesn't work for you
- Class time is a mix of lecture, group discussion, and project work
- Each class's curriculum is provided, though we want you to teach your professional experience
- Classes require preparation time, but there's no homework to grade
- Classes are small (5-18 students) and use new Mac labs
- Pay is competitive with other adult education schools
- At least 2 years of working experience required
- Prior teaching experience is preferred, but a Master's degree is not required
