Technical Lead at TheLadders (New York, NY 10013)

TheLadders.com is seeking a Technical Lead with a passion for technology coupled with the skills and intelligence to make our solutions a reality. This is a fast-paced, open environment where innovation and participation is encouraged through blogging, custom tool development, hack-day events and other out-of-the-box techniques.

The Technical Lead must be natural born problem solver with exceptional hands-on technical skills. Our current systems are predominantly Java-based, leveraging the Spring Framework, built upon solutions such as Solr/Lucene, MySQL, Avro, and more. We believe in small teams of world class engineers that can solve problems and innovate at every layer of the stack, and we want you to provide expert guidance and insights to those teams to ensure the long-term stability, quality and performance of our products.

This position is based in New York City, in the heart of SoHo.

Some of the responsibilities of this role include:
• Contribute to the implementation of our highest profile projects
• Mentor junior engineers, which may include performing code reviews
• Collaborate with your team and superiors in designing new solutions
• Contribute to the improvement of our continuous integration and testing frameworks
• Suggest tools and best practices to improve our stability, performance and site quality
• Help us to staff, grow and maintain a world class engineering team

You should have in-depth knowledge of:
• Java, the JVM, and the ecosystem of supporting tools and libraries
• HTML, CSS, JavaScript and associated frameworks
• Lucene/Solr and enterprise search in general
• Realistic application design and systems architecture
• Performance profiling and tuning code and systems from end-to-end
• Source control systems, build systems
• Agile methodologies and XP engineering practices

We’d like you to have a BS in Computer Science or related field. Masters in Computer Science or higher preferred.
