In a Nutshell:
We?re looking
for someone to lead the technical side of our business intelligence team. . . .
Someone who has excellent technical chops across the Microsoft BI platform,
someone who can understand and accommodate the business context of the work,
someone who can set direction for the development of the platform, and someone
who can mentor and orchestrate other team members. Our business intelligence
practice is in a nascent state, and we?re looking for the person who can chart
a course and get there, and can make the journey enjoyable, through a
combination of ideas, rolling up the sleeves, inspiration, and compassion.
We are looking for a candidate with 5+
years
experience in the complete Microsoft BI technology stack (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, SQL
Server) to develop and direct the
company?s business-intelligence (BI) platform to support business requirements.
This is both a hands-on programming position and a strategy/management role;
it?s about figuring out the best way to use data and business-intelligence
tools to support our direct-marketing business. This position will set
standards and practices for BI-related development and will lead the
organization?s technical direction with respect to the BI platform. Some vendor
management for outsourced and contracted software development will be required,
and the BI Lead Developer will be responsible for the hiring and management of technical
staff.
Primary Responsibilities
include:
- In consultation with the rest of the BI team, set priorities for technical work on the BI system.
- Lead the activities of internal and external (contractor) resources performing BI technical work.
- Design and develop software components for the Microsoft SQL Server environment (reports, ETL processes, data cubes).
- Mentor the in-house BI staff on Microsoft BI technology and BI technology and concepts in general.
- Provide guidance as to best practices with SSIS and code/procedural reviews for SSIS workflows.
- Work with BI Team and business stakeholders to understand, document, and prescribe requirements.
- Work with data modeler and business stakeholders to create new SSIS workflows.
- Transition existing ETL systems from Python ETL framework to new SSIS workflows.
- Document BI infrastructure.
- Devise testing procedures to ensure reliability and maintainability of SSIS workflows.
- Creation of SSAS data cubes for data views/analysis.
- Creation of reports via SSRS, Excel, and other tools.
Our ideal candidate has:
- A Bachelor?s degree.
- Fluency in the full Microsoft BI technology stack (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS).
- Thorough understanding and experience in the practice of managing software developers, both direct reports and contractors. Minimum of two years experience managing other employees.
- Experience with ASP.NET or ASP.NET MVC is preferred.
- Experience with C#, Java, and other programming technologies is preferred.
- Experience working with Agile development methodologies, particularly Scrum teamwork and User Story development and estimation, is preferred.
- Thorough understanding of relational database system concepts.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to articulate thoughts as well as understand and give direction to a variety of audiences, are crucial.
