We're looking for an senior User Experience / Interaction Designer to join our team and rock our world.  We're a young and growing company building software for the visual effects, feature animation, and video game industries.  We want to build beautiful software that people love with all their hearts.  We need your help.

We have one main product called Shotgun.  It is a flexible web-based "production tracking and collaboration" application.  It is designed for everyone working the studio across many roles and needs.  It has a customizable database, a flexible web interface, and an open API.  We provide defaults and tools, and our clients can build and evolve their own applications on top of this framework.  There is tons more to build and lots of interesting challenges to solve.  And another product on the way...

You'll be taking over responsibilities from one of the founders to own and guide the usability and design of our apps.  You'll work to identify the highest priority problems, design solutions, iterate with our "front of the house team", help decide the priority for our development, and then shepherd your designs all the way out the door.  Our dev team understands your role is critical to making great software, and they welcome you into their process to make constant improvements (no throwing stuff over the wall here!).  We release software every 6 weeks (patches every weekend), so the pace is very quick and addictive.

You'll have direct access to the people using the software who work at places like Digital Domain, Disney, Blizzard, Playstation, Framestore, The Onion, etc.  They are super smart and open and want to help us build their dream tool that will help them do their jobs better.

Our wishlist for you:
  • 4+ years of interaction design experience, with wireframes, data flows, and other stuff to show off and talk about.
  • The ability to tackle complex problems and make them simple, then communicate your decisions to your mates.
  • We're working fast with a lot of balls in the air, so we'll need you to be able to duck and weave and adapt and rock.
  • Previous experience working on "pro-level" applications *and* web apps a major plus.
  • Ability to make quick prototypes, which can be clickable key frames or semi-working interfaces.
  • Ideally you can move easily between the big picture and the little details that make a difference.
  • Although our primary focus is user experience, you get bonus points if you are also an awesome visual designer who can elevate our work into something people want to lick.
  • More bonus points if you are based in LA and can work directly with one of the founders in Venice.  But most of the team is distributed across 8 cities so being in LA is not required.

This is a cool place to work.  Most of us are foodies, we love good wine, and we're becoming obsessed with coffee.  We have a strict no-asshole rule, and are trying to build a dream team of people who inspire us every day.

We'll pay you what you are worth, give you lots of flexibility and challenges, and although we're all passionate and work hard, we insist that you have a healthy work/life balance.
