SENIOR JAVA DEVELOPER
Hostway Corporation is seeking individuals who are eager, energetic and highly technical for a Senior Java Developer and a position with our Engineering Services Group, located in Chicago. The applicant will be expected to work in a team oriented environment tackling tasks at various stages in the development process ranging from requirements gathering to implementation and testing. Emphasis is placed on the candidate's contribution to the group and their advancement in understanding and helping extend and maintain Hostway's technical infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
* Maintain the core of Hostway's main control panel platform.
* Develop new Hostway services on the above platform.
* Troubleshoot technical issues in the control panel core as well as in services developed on this platform.
* Provide support to remote development teams
* Participate in the technical design of new product and services
* Provide technical feedback to the marketing group regarding the technical feasibility of proposed services
Required Skills:
* BS or higher in Computer Science or equivalent field;
* At least three years of professional programming experience in several programming languages such as: C/C++, Java, Python, Perl, Ruby;
* Extensive experience and knowledge of Object Oriented Programming/Development concepts and practices;
* Familiarity with web-based applications and the benefits/limitations of HTML interfaces, including persistent server application frameworks;
* Strong analytic mindset, the ability to decompose complex problems into simpler components, and the ability to organize and track complicated project plans;
* Attention to detail;
* The ability to write robust, high-quality code;
* Excellent written and verbal communications expected as well as commitment to quality and customer satisfaction;
* Familiarity with relational database concepts and RDBMS systems such as MySQL, Oracle, DB2 and SQLServer;
* Working knowledge of both Unix and Windows. Prefer strength in Unix (all flavors) environment.
Desirable Skills:
* Previous experience working with iterative development methodologies, such as Extreme Programming, Scrum or Feature Driven Design;
* Familiarity with server-side scripting languages such as Perl, Python and PHP;
* General understanding of networks and network programming techniques;
* Experience using version/change control systems (CVS, Perforce, ClearCase, Visual SourceSafe, etc.)

Emphasis is placed on the candidate's contribution to the group and their advancement in understanding and helping extend and maintain Hostway's technical infrastructure.

* Develop the user interface of Hostway's main control panel application using JSP, AJAX, JavaScript and CSS, in accordance with marketing requirements;
* Troubleshoot user interface issues;
* Work with the software development team to design optimal solutions to usability challenges;
* Work with UI designers to establish a set of design standards for the control panel application.
Required Skills:
* BS or higher in Computer Science or equivalent field;
* At least two years of programming experience (academic or professional) in several programming languages such as: C/C++, Java, Python, Perl, Ruby;
* At least three years of web development experience using JavaScript, AJAX and CSS;
