(San Francisco or Washington, DC)
We're a mobile development company based in Washington, DC with an office in San Francisco.
About Us:
We're a bunch of really hard-core developers, and we've been able do to some great things. We created AppMakr - a way for anyone to make an iPhone app, in minutes, for free.
We also have a very robust consulting organization that makes custom apps for clients like Disney, Cars.com, Newsweek and others.
You can learn more about us here.
About the Job:
What we really need, though, is someone with a strong eye for design to jump into our organization and influence everything we do, including:
1) Our public websites, www.PointAbout.com and www.AppMakr.com
2) The usability of AppMakr.com
3) The native iPhone app template that AppMakr builds apps from (you can see an example of a finished app here ... should the buttons be on the bottom? Should the gallery look like it does? Should the share button be in a different place? etc.)
4) The design of iPhone, iPad, Android and Blackberry apps we build for clients.
We are looking for someone who specializes in really clean design with an eye on user interfaces. A background in mobile would be helpful but is not required. An interest in mobile is a definite huge plus.
We love the design aesthetic of 37 Signals websites, for example, and the way the user is presented with just what they need, and an ability to explore to find more when they're ready.
We're looking for someone with a strong portfolio, and plenty of experience. Someone who is comfortable being in charge of the design of an entire company, and capable of executing well.
We want you to help us make it easy for our users and customers to use AppMakr and interact with our brand.
About You:
You should be willing to relocate to DC or SF, or already be in one of those two areas.
You should have a great portfolio you can show us of work you've done in the past.
You should have a background in what constitutes a great user interface, and it'd be especially helpful if you have experience with Apple's Human Interface Guidelines and working on small screens like the iPhone.
About The Compensation:
We're flexible and will pay based on experience. We are a 30 person company, and we're just getting health insurance set up. The position includes stock options once you complete a 90 day "getting to know each other" gig as a 1099 contractor where we start with project-based tasks to evaluate the fit from both sides.
